the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. "Matthew 28:19
"Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other Sacraments"
-Catechism of the Catholic Church #1213
The birth of your child is such a gift! Let Our Lady of Mercy parish help you give the gift of new birth through the waters of Holy Baptism. For a child to receive Baptism, please note that at least one parent must be a practicing Catholic, regularly attending Holy Mass, participate in the life of the parish, and be registered at Our Lady of Mercy for three months prior to requesting the date of Baptism. In this, you become part of our wider parish family! Preparation for the baptism of infants can begin during pregnancy. Preparation classes are given on an individual basis or in groups depending on the number requesting baptism for their child. Godparents are welcome to attend a Baptismal Preparation class as well. Since godparents promise to help raise your child in the practice of the Catholic faith, godparents must be practicing Catholics at whatever parish they attend.
Please contact Fr. Joe Cwik, 301-365-1415, x129 or frjoe@olom.org for infant or children baptism and Anna LaNave, 301-364-1415 x122 or alanave@olom.org for teen/adult baptism.
This should be done before contacting a priest or choosing a date.
